Michael assists clients with patent related matters.

Michael’s practice, while focused on patent preparation and prosecution, spans a broad range of issues associated with intellectual property (IP) rights, for example:

  • IP Due diligence in support of mergers and acquisitions;
  • Technology licensing including Open Source software issues;
  • IP rights under federal research and development contracts; and
  • Patent reexamination

Michael’s practice has encompassed subject matter across a wide range of technologies including: cellular telephone networks, digital filters, homeland security, electromechanical devices, bioinformatics, and a broad array of software applications.

Previous Work

Prior to joining ArentFox Schiff, Michael worked at a boutique, IP law firm. He has also worked at a number of other law firms in Washington, DC and San Antonio, Texas.

Michael was also an engineer for the US Army Communications-Electronics Command. During this time he held a Top Secret/Special Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance supported by a Special Background Investigation (SBI), and successful US Army Counterintelligence (CI) Scope Polygraph Examination.

Life Beyond the Law

In his spare time Michael enjoys fly fishing, camp-over music festivals, and hiking with his wife Trish and their high-energy Labrador Retrievers Sadie and Maggie.
