Partner Mir Ali was featured in Chicago Lawyer on his military career and how he continues serving his country and fellow veterans in his legal career.
Mir is a former U.S. Army special forces detachment commander. He began leading Schiff’s military inclusion network, Military Appreciation at Schiff Hardin (MASH), a year and a half ago and has three major goals for the Diversity subcommittee.
“The first one is hiring and developing veteran attorneys and law students,” Mir said. “The second one is highlighting the accomplishments and experiences of our own veteran attorneys. And the third initiative is providing pro bono legal representation to veterans in the community in partnership with the Veterans Consortium.”
The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program provides pro bono assistance to unrepresented veterans or their loved ones appealing the denial of VA benefits. Mir said that the opportunity to provide legal assistance to those who are unable to afford it, especially within veteran community, is a very satisfying experience.
“I am very excited about this partnership with the Veterans Consortium,” he said. “It is something we are doing at our firm, and I am very proud and happy to be leading that effort.”
