Customer Proprietary Network Information Certificates Due Friday, March 1

The deadline for filing annual certificates of compliance with federal Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) rules with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is Friday, March 1, 2013.

The FCC includes the following types of providers in its non-exhaustive list of filers that must submit certificates: telecommunications carriers; interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers; commercial mobile radio providers (CMRS); interexchange carriers; prepaid calling card providers; resellers; and calling card providers.

Certificates must contain an officer’s signature attesting personal knowledge that the company has established procedures to protect CPNI, and a description of those procedures. The company must also describe any actions taken against data brokers in 2012, and any customer complaints received regarding CPNI, as well as provide a description of the measures taken by the company to protect CPNI in 2012.

The FCC encourages filers to electronically file their certificates in either EB Docket No. 06-36 in the FCC’s Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS) or through its new web-based application, which can be found here. Filers may also provide the FCC with paper copies of their certificates. More information about the filing can be found in the Public Notice found here.
