New Sunshine Act Requirements: Trump Signs Law that Will Require Drug Manufacturers to Report Payments Made to Mid-Level Practitioners
President Trump signed into law a bill that expands the Open Payments reporting requirements.
On October 25, 2018, President Trump signed into law a bill that expands the Open Payments reporting requirements (frequently referred to as the Sunshine Act). Currently, the Sunshine Act requires manufacturers and medical device companies to report certain payments and transfers of value made to physicians and teaching hospitals. Under the new law, manufacturers and medical device companies will also have to report payments and transfers of value to physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other mid-level practitioners calendar year 2021, starting with payments and transfers made during calendar year 2021.
