Carlos Ghosn, the renowned former CEO of Nissan & Renault, who brokered the Japanese & French carmarkers’ alliance with Mitsubishi, brazenly escaped from house arrest in Tokyo, Japan on December 30, 2019, and finally wound up in Beirut, Lebanon (Mr. Ghosn is a Lebanese citizen). Mr. Ghosn, who was under house arrest in Japan on charges of underreporting his compensation and unduly shifting personal losses to Nissan, fled the country to avoid trial on charges that he stated amounted to “injustice and political persecution.”
