Is Beefed-Up Security Counter Or Compulsory?
Arent Fox Land Use leader Tim Tosta was recently quoted in the GlobeSt.com article, “Is Beefed-Up Security Counter Or Compulsory?” As many technology companies look to expand their offices’ accessibility to the public, recent events such as the shooting at YouTube have necessitated a seemingly contradictory set of heightened security measures.
“The basic concept of security has changed with this higher level of violence,” said Tim, adding that, “The security used to start at the company lobby and now it is at the ground floor. Companies do risk-based analyses to determine the potential for physical harm and sense of urgency.”
Tim mentioned such security methods as cameras and facial recognition technology, but with the extra layer of security protocols, the article notes it could be disruptive to the collaborative work environments these companies work to achieve. “This gets bothersome and expensive for the employees,” noted Tim.
