Craig Engle Comments about DOMA Reversal and Political Campaign Contributions

Arent Fox Political Law leader Craig Engle was featured in The Wall Street Journal and Roll Call following the recent overturning of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and the potential impact it could have on political campaign contributions.

Earlier this year, Craig represented Dan Winslow, a Massachusetts state representative who ran for the US Senate. Mr. Winslow requested an advisory opinion on how much money gay couples could contribute to his political campaign; the Federal Election Commission (FEC) responded that married gay couples couldn’t contribute as much as straight couples under the jurisdiction of DOMA.

Since DOMA was struck down by the Supreme Court last month, Mr. Winslow has asked the FEC to review his case once again. “This will be one of the first agencies to deal with implementing the DOMA ruling,” Craig said.
