Partner Jennifer DePalma spoke with Law360 on her recent move to ArentFox Schiff’s Corporate & Securities practice, to which she brings 20-plus years counseling private and public companies, as well as venture capital and private equity investors, on all aspects of corporate and securities matters.

Jen said, “I think [ArentFox Schiff] is the perfect place for me to land. The specialty areas between their transaction practice, their regulatory practice and the litigation capabilities here, it just came together with my corporate background in Silicon Valley and my life sciences and fintech experience. I’m incredibly excited about it.”

She added that the firm is the right place for her to grow her practice and will bring better service to her clients.

“It’s a really collegial and collaborative atmosphere,” she said. “I’ve been here a little more than a week and people are reaching out, getting me involved in things, jumping in on matters I have going on. It’s a huge plus for my clients to be able to draw on the expertise. Attorneys here are so client services focused and just really jump in with clients in a friendly, supportive, helpful manner. It’s been a fantastic transition so far.”

AFS Corporate & Securities Practice Co-Leader Steven Cohen said that Jen gives their practice additional depth,

“[Her] expertise in handling venture capital and emerging company transactions, and her first-hand industry experience with fintech, blockchain, biotech, and healthcare will be particularly beneficial to our clients in the Northern California market,” he said.

Jen noted that she enjoys the transactional side of her work more than the litigation side.

“I’m more of the kind of person that when there’s a dispute or two parties are in discussion, [I want to] find a solution and negotiate to a resolution,” she said. “Transactions is not a zero-sum gain; you can really find solutions that optimize the deal for everyone. There’s just more opportunities to be collaborative in the transaction side than on the litigation side, which fits my personality.”
