Loring Quoted on Methane Emission Regulations
Partner David Loring was quoted on the rollback of restrictions on gas wells’ venting and flaring on federal and tribal lands as a sign that the Trump Administration may intend to shift the responsibility of regulating methane emissions.
David said, “What we’re really seeing is a migration from federal oversight to leaving it more to the states and individual regulated entities to control their emission of methane.”
David added that some states may heighten their restrictions on methane and related emissions from the oil and gas section in order to meet National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS).
“They do go hand in hand,” he said. “You may see more states look to regulate things like methane in order to come into compliance with more stringent ozone NAAQS requirements.”
