Washington Post Features Craig Engle’s FEC Testimony on Campaign Finance Reform
Political Law partner Craig Engle’s testimony before the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on campaign finance contributions was again covered by The Washington Post.
The paper took the opportunity to criticize the Obama Administration’s apparent unwillingness to deal with the issue of campaign finance reform.
The article noted that “the president has not made a nomination to the FEC, which enforces the nation’s campaign finance laws, in more than three years.”
Mr. Engle agreed with the sentiments expressed in the article by Bradley Smith, who argued that the real question is to what extent the government should be allowed to regulate political campaigns. “Money is important in the political system, and it’s important for speech.” said Mr. Smith, the chair of the Center for Responsive Politics.
