Arent Fox Announces 2018 Promotions to Partner and Counsel
The new partners are Adam D. Bowser, Lynn R. Fiorentino, Bradford C. Frese, Lewis Goss II, Marwa M. Hassoun, Faige P. Klein, Paul C. Maier, Jordana L. Renert, Luna M. Samman, and Temitope K. Yusuf. M. Douglas Flahaut and Eric B. Hamburg have been promoted to counsel.

Adam D. Bowser was an associate in the Communications, Technology & Mobile group in Washington, DC. Mr. Bowser focuses on complex litigation in federal and state courts, including class action trials and appeals, as well as related advocacy before administrative agencies in rulemaking and enforcement proceedings. Mr. Bowser has extensive experience in telemarketing regulation and has won several notable victories for clients brought into class-action litigation arising out of consumer-protection and privacy laws, particularly the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). He also serves as outside general counsel to Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), platform operators, and Application Program Interface (API) providers specializing in the growing VoIP and text messaging markets. As part of that role, Mr. Bowser guides companies through the federal and state regulatory process, tax and privacy law, and intercarrier compensation and interconnection issues. Mr. Bowser received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and his JD from George Mason’s Antonin Scalia Law School.
Lynn R. Fiorentino was an associate in the Complex Litigation practice in San Francisco. Ms. Fiorentino’s work focuses on complex commercial litigation, including class actions, white collar criminal defense, government investigations, and Proposition 65 compliance. She has extensive experience defending business organizations, employees, and witnesses in government investigations, as well as representing corporations in multi-party civil cases and class action matters, including labor and employment and California’s Unfair Competition Law. In addition, Ms. Fiorentino represents clients in the defense of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, False Claims Act, Clean Water Act, and antitrust laws, as well as students in Title IX university disciplinary matters with parallel criminal proceedings. She earned her JD from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
Bradford C. Frese was an associate in the Intellectual Property practice in Washington, DC. His practice includes the full spectrum of patent law, with a special focus on patent litigation, particularly Hatch-Waxman litigation. In the Hatch-Waxman space, Bradford has experience with counseling on portfolio development and freedom-to-operate strategies; providing opinions and counseling on patent infringement, validity, and enforceability; and litigating patent cases in the Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) realm. In litigation, he has represented a variety of pharmaceutical clients in matters involving patents covering various classes of drugs, including antihistamines, anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, hypnotics, oral contraceptives, and antineoplastic agents. Mr. Frese earned his JD from Georgetown University Law Center and his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Dartmouth College.
Lewis Goss II is a seasoned deal lawyer with a broad range of skills and experience in the areas of real estate, lender, and commercial finance. Mr. Goss currently focuses his time representing major banks, financial institutions, institutional investors and private equity in connection with their real estate financing transactions. He was recently recognized as one of Washington DC’s Top 40 Lawyers Under 40. Mr. Goss has experience representing lenders and developers in connection with the acquisition, construction, and disposition of real estate projects nationwide in all major asset classes and he has experience representing lenders in mezzanine transactions, A-B syndications, note-on-note loans, and master participation agreements. A native Tennessean, Lewis graduated with a BS in Finance from the University of Tennessee before earning his JD from The George Washington University Law School.
Marwa M. Hassoun was an associate in the International Trade group in Los Angeles. Her practice focuses on advising US and non-US companies on international regulatory issues, including civilian and military export controls, economic sanctions, antiboycott regulations, and customs regulations. Ms. Hassoun’s practice includes conducting audits and investigations; developing and delivering compliance-related trainings, policies, and procedures; and drafting directed and voluntary disclosures, license applications, ruling requests, protests, commodity jurisdiction and classification requests, advisory opinion requests, and other submissions to various government agencies, including the Directorate of Defense Trade Control (DDTC), the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Census Bureau, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). She has experience in a variety of industries, including aerospace, space, arms, telecommunications, oil and gas, security support services, high technology, electronics, information technology, chemicals, and industrial manufacturing. Ms. Hassoun earned her JD from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
Faige P. Klein advises clients on all forms of financing transactions, including multifamily, seniors housing, manufactured housing, commercial and office properties, as well as construction issues, title matters, commercial leasing, and property management concerns. She counsels lenders on all aspects of mortgage financing transactions, with particular emphasis on pooled transactions involving multifamily, affordable housing, seniors housing, and manufactured housing communities. Representative transactions range in size from $20 million to $2.5 billion and include all components of deal management for the lender, including structuring for local law and regulatory concerns, particularly in the seniors housing and affordable housing space. Over the past several years, Ms. Klein has commanded the lending effort of over $10 billion worth of loans across the United States. Ms. Klein also advises institutional landlords and tenants in the leasing, management, construction, and daily operation of office and retail properties, both in New York City and throughout the country. Ms. Klein earned her JD from Brooklyn Law School.
Paul C. Maier was an associate in the Intellectual Property group in New York. His practice concentrates on managing the development and maintenance of large patent portfolios, including all areas of patent prosecution, and complex patent licensing and opinion work, including freedom to operate and clearance studies. Mr. Maier is experienced in patent litigation, including in regard to pretrial and trial matters, formulation of litigation strategies, case management, settlement negotiations, and all aspects of discovery. His litigation experience also includes patent infringement cases in a wide range of technologies, and in complex patent litigations under the Hatch-Waxman act. Additionally, he represents numerous pro bono clients by managing their trademark portfolios and providing general legal counseling and strategies. Mr. Maier earned his JD from St. John’s University School of Law where he served as editor-in-chief of the St. John’s Journal of Legal Commentary.
Jordana L. Renert was an associate in the Bankruptcy & Financial Restructuring group in New York. She has extensive experience in all aspects of financial restructurings, distressed situations and bankruptcy reorganization, and municipality and liquidation proceedings. Ms. Renert represents creditors’ committees, indenture trustees, agents, and bondholders in bankruptcy proceedings, as well as acquirors of and investors in troubled, distressed, and bankrupt companies. She earned her JD from Brooklyn Law School.
Luna M. Samman was an associate in the Intellectual Property group in Washington, DC. She works with clients in various industries and of all sizes on domestic and global brand protection. Her practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property issues, including worldwide trademark, trade dress, and copyright protection and enforcement, the selection and clearance of marks, global advertising campaigns and brand launches, and licensing. She prepares and prosecutes trademark applications, provides trademark availability opinions, represents clients in opposition and cancellation proceedings, and conducts due diligence for licensing programs and in connection corporate acquisitions. Ms. Samman also has extensive experience in managing and operating a volume anti-piracy compliance program for computer software. She has represented clients in various fields, including the restaurant, pharmaceutical, medical device, and fashion industries. She earned her JD from The George Washington University Law School.
Temitope K. Yusuf was a senior associate in the White Collar Criminal Defense, Labor & Employment, and Complex Litigation groups in New York. She is a key member of Arent Fox’s Business Compliance & Integrity Monitorships team. Ms. Yusuf currently serves as the Deputy Independent Consultant for one of the world’s largest financial institutions. She frequently advises clients under investigation by the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission. Ms. Yusuf provides counseling, develops gold-standard compliance policies and procedures, and conducts global investigations pertaining to US law, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act; Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act; and False Claims Act. She has represented corporations in various employment related matters, including discrimination claims, wage and hour disputes, and inquiries from the Department of Labor. Ms. Yusuf frequently provides clients with guidance on employee manuals, social media issues, and compliance training on federal, state, and local laws. She earned her JD from Columbia Law School.
M. Douglas Flahaut was an associate in the Bankruptcy & Financial Restructuring in Los Angeles. As an American Board of Certification certified Business Bankruptcy Specialist, Mr. Flahaut’s practice focuses on business reorganizations, representation of Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 trustees, preference litigation, and related business litigation matters. He is the President Elect of the James T. King Bankruptcy Inn of Court and he is active in the California Bankruptcy Forum, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Federal Bar Association. Mr. Flahaut earned his JD from the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Law.
Eric B. Hamburg was an associate in the Health Care and Corporate & Securities practices in New York. He focuses on transactional and regulatory matters for a variety of clients, mainly in the health care and sports industries. Mr. Hamburg’s experience includes representing national health care providers, investor groups, public and private companies, investment banks, and private equity funds in mergers, acquisitions, regulatory compliance, and various other corporate transactions. He earned his JD from the University of Chicago.
