Arent Fox Expands Real Estate Practice with Addition of Partner David M. Martin and Counsel Patrick A. Nickler

Washington, DC — Arent Fox LLP is pleased to announce the expansion of its nationally recognized Real Estate practice with the addition of real estate finance partner David M. Martin and counsel Patrick A. Nickler. With more than 20 years of experience, Mr. Martin re-joins the firm where he practiced as an associate and will work out of the Washington, DC office. He will focus on commercial real estate finance, acquisition and disposition transactions, corporate and banking mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, commercial lending, and real estate restructuring.

Mr. Martin was previously a real estate and finance partner at an AmLaw 100 firm where he focused on the areas of finance, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and compliance, and banking.

A former senior vice president and general counsel of commercial lending for CapitalSource, Inc., Mr. Martin worked closely with the publicly traded company’s structured finance, health care, and corporate finance business units. He also served on various credit and executive committees for CapitalSource.

Before joining CapitalSource, Mr. Martin served as president and general counsel of New World Network, an international telecommunications company that developed and operated a submarine fiber optic cable system interconnecting the United States and 16 Latin American countries. Mr. Martin advised and managed the company on business and legal issues during its initial formation, capitalization, and financing, as well as its subsequent transition into an operating company, financial restructuring, and eventual sale. He received his JD from the University of Maryland School of Law.

Mr. Nickler’s practice focuses on real estate finance, loan workouts, restructurings, and real estate acquisition and development. He represents national and regional banks, finance companies, and real estate developers in acquisitions and dispositions and all aspects of secured and unsecured financings, including syndicated construction financing, acquisition financing, securitized CMBS financing, and mezzanine financing, In addition, he represents landlords and tenants in the leasing of office and retail space. He received his JD from Boston College Law School.
