Cristina Carvalho and Hunter Carter Named Top Lawyers for Latin America

The annual rating honors leading attorneys from international law firms that serve as go-to advisors for Latin American companies. Ms. Carvalho has been recognized for five consecutive years, while this is Mr. Carter’s sixth straight year on the list. In addition, Arent Fox is rated as one of Latin America’s Top Law Firms.

Ms. Carvalho, a native of Brazil, serves as a go-to attorney in the US for major Latin American corporations. Throughout her career, she has used her knowledge and experience in the United States and Brazil to counsel clients on strategies for navigating different legal systems and cultures to realize opportunities in both mature and emerging markets.

Mr. Carter is an international litigator with an emphasis on Latin America. As a party representative and as an ICC arbitrator, Mr. Carter handles significant commercial matters across the region. He also helps conduct internal corporate investigations and provides guidance on compliance with anti-corruption laws. In addition he is a recognized advocate for human rights. Mr. Carter advises on marriage equality initiatives in numerous Latin American countries, has tried a case involving torture against Chile in the Inter-American Court on Human Rights, has addressed the full Colombian Senate on international human rights law and marriage equality and has represented the people of Easter Island. He is the co-chair of AF International, as well as the author of the online report The Colombia Law & Business Post. He is a founding member of the think tank Global Americans, is a member of the New York City Bar Vance Center for International Justice, and the former chair of the City Bar’s Committee on Inter-American Affairs.
