Doug Jones Returns to ArentFox Schiff After Serving as Nomination Advisor to Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson
ArentFox Schiff LLP is pleased to welcome former US Senator Doug Jones back to the firm after serving as President Joe Biden’s Nomination Advisor for Legislative Affairs during Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation process to become the first Black woman to serve on the US Supreme Court.
Senator Jones took a temporary leave of absence from the firm’s Government Relations and Government Enforcement & White Collar groups to advise President Biden and help guide Judge Jackson during the Senate meetings, interview process, and confirmation hearings. Senator Jones represented Alabama in the United States Senate from 2018 to 2021.
“Judge Jackson has made history as the first Black woman appointed to the US Supreme Court. We’re thrilled to celebrate her addition to the nation’s highest court and proud that Doug was able to support her in such a meaningful way,” said Anthony V. Lupo, Chairman of ArentFox Schiff. “Doug is an outstanding and highly regarded attorney and policy advisor, and his longstanding dedication to civil rights and experience on Capitol Hill made him an excellent choice. Congratulations to Judge Jackson on her groundbreaking appointment to the US Supreme Court.”
Following Judge Jackson’s confirmation to the Supreme Court, Senator Jones returns to ArentFox Schiff to continue advising clients on a variety of public policy issues and legal matters, particularly in the National Security, Health Care, and Financial Services industries. He is also a Distinguished Senior Fellow at The Center for American Progress, focusing his work on issues of racial justice and equality, voting rights, and law enforcement reform.
“We congratulate Judge Jackson and are very proud of Senator Jones’ role in this historic moment,” said Jon S. Bouker, ArentFox Schiff Government Relations Practice Co-Leader. “Doug is well-respected on both sides of the aisle, and his strong character and experience in the Senate made him an outstanding choice to assist Judge Jackson through the nomination process.”
While in the US Senate, Senator Jones served on the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Armed Services; Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions; and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committees.
After working in private practice, Senator Jones was nominated by President Bill Clinton in 1997 to serve as US Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama. As US Attorney, Senator Jones successfully prosecuted Thomas Edwin Blanton Jr. and Bobby Frank Cherry, two members of the Ku Klux Klan, for their roles in the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing.
